
Derek Haenke
Manager of Employee Success, Operations
Derek Haenke joined Blackman & Sloop in 2022 and currently serves as the Manager of Employee Success in the Operations Department. In this role, Derek is responsible for a wide range of people–focused initiatives that support the firm’s culture, growth, and strategic goals. He oversees the firm’s performance management system, talent development strategies, and employee relations, ensuring that all matters are handled with professionalism and in compliance with legal standards. Derek also plays a key role in hiring, onboarding, and benefits administration, helping to maintain a competitive and engaging workplace.
Working closely with the CEO and partner group, Derek contributes to long–term planning, firm–wide communication, and organizational development. He also oversees the firm’s Human Capital Management system (Workday) and Learning Management System (LCvista), while actively contributing to the internal quality control and peer review processes. One of his proudest accomplishments is the implementation of employee scorecards and a coaching strategy that empowers
staff to track their progress and achieve their goals.
Outside of work, Derek enjoys spending time with his wife, Kate, and their two sons, Carter and Jaxon. The family lives in Clayton, NC, along with their two dogs, Colby and Zeus. In his free time, he enjoys playing golf and watching NHL hockey. He lives by the motto, “Always do the hard right over the easy wrong,” and brings that same commitment and compassion to his work each day.
