Here is what the firm has been up to since our last newsletter.

Promotions / New Hires:

On May 19, we welcomed Meg Helgesen and Yaritza Ventura as summer interns!

Congratulations to Andrew Olson, who just received his Enrolled Agent’s certification!

Conferences / Seminars / Events:

On May 14-15, we hosted 15 students from nine schools in North Carolina for our 4th annual Summer Leadership Conference. We discussed topics such as “Overcoming Impostor Syndrome” and “Better Goal Setting”, participated in a service project together, and had fun wrapping up the conference with a friendly competition at an Escape Room!

Volunteerism/Community Events:

We wrapped up our Spring Campus Recruiting season with visits to North Carolina A & T, Wake Tech, and UNC-Greensboro. Looking forward to reconnecting this fall!

On May 3, Blackman & Sloop proudly sponsored this year’s Wakefield Rotary Club’s Super Duper Duck Splash—and even more exciting, we won the sponsorship race! The event, which supports local youth initiatives and charitable causes, brought together businesses and supporters from across the area. Our sponsorship helped make the event a success, and our lucky duck brought home the win in the sponsorship race!

Our Service project for the Summer Leadership Conference this year benefitted the children and siblings staying at the Ronald McDonald House.  We created puzzles and put together “goody bags” for the children.

Office Happenings:

On April 23, we celebrated Sue Cannon and Candy Kirby’s retirement from Blackman & Sloop. Candy and Sue have been supporting Blackman & Sloop for a combined 70+ years (Candy = 41 year / Sue = 31 years)! Their commitment, professionalism, and positivity have left a lasting impact on our firm. We are truly grateful for everything they’ve done and the many ways they’ve helped shape our team! 

On April 23 we also celebrated Administrative Professionals Day!  Thanks to our amazing team!

We’re also excited to share that Blackman & Sloop’s brand-new website officially launched on Friday, May 16! The refreshed online experience features improved usability across all devices, easier navigation, and updated content that better reflects our services and how we support our clients’ goals.
