In the Firm – July 2026

Here is what the firm has been up to since our last newsletter.

New Hires:

We are pleased to welcome two new team members to Blackman & Sloop:

1. Lee Worrix joined the team as a Senior Tax Associate.
2. Maclain Coords joined the team as a Tax Associate.
3. Chinedu Mazi joined the team as in Intern.
4. Spencer Stasczak joined the team as an Intern.

We are glad to have them on board and look forward to all they’ll bring to the firm!

Conferences/Seminars/Events:

On May 11–12, we welcomed students from across North Carolina to our fifth annual Summer Leadership Conference! Throughout the two-day event, attendees had the opportunity to connect with our team, participate in an in-house community service project, and gain valuable insights into the accounting profession through sessions like The Future of the CPA and What Is Busy Season Really Like?

We enjoyed getting to know this talented group of future professionals and want to thank everyone who joined us for another successful Summer Leadership Conference. We look forward to staying connected and seeing all they accomplish in the years ahead!

Volunteerism/community events:

Community involvement remains an important part of Blackman & Sloop’s culture. On June 17, members of our team prepared and served a meal for families staying at the SECU Family House at UNC Hospitals, which provides affordable accommodations and support for loved ones of patients receiving medical care.

On June 15, we delivered the handmade door wreaths created during our Summer Leadership Conference to the residents of Generations Ashe, sharing a small token of our appreciation with the community.

We’re grateful for opportunities like these to give back and support organizations that make a meaningful impact across North Carolina.

Office Happenings:

June was filled with celebrations around the office!

We gathered to celebrate Assurance Senior Henry Kunz ahead of his August wedding to Hunter with margaritas and Mexican-inspired bites.

We kept everyone refreshed by recognizing National Hydration Day with a spa water hydration station.

We also had the honor of attending the Business North Carolina Best Employers NC Gala, where we celebrated Blackman & Sloop being named the #3 Best Employer in North Carolina.

It was a wonderful opportunity to recognize the people and culture that make our firm a great place to work.
