In the Firm – September 2025

Here is what the firm has been up to since our last newsletter.

Promotions and New Hires:

On August 25, we welcomed Jessica Wyant to the team as a Senior Audit Associate, and on August 11, Henry Kunz joined us as an Audit Associate! We’re excited to have them on board and look forward to the great contributions they’ll bring to our team.

Conferences/Seminars/Events:

This fall, our team attended recruiting events at UNC-Greensboro, UNC-Chapel Hill, NC A&T, NC State, East Carolina University, and High Point University. We enjoyed connecting with students, learning about their career goals, and sharing opportunities at Blackman & Sloop. Thank you to everyone who stopped by — we look forward to continuing conversations in the spring!

Volunteerism/Community Events:

On August 19, our team volunteered at the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public School Foundation’s Teacher Supply Store, hosted in partnership with the East Chapel Hill Rotary Club. Since 2007, this annual event has provided teachers in Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools with free classroom supplies, helping them offset the personal costs of stocking their classrooms. From setup and stocking to assisting with checkout, we were honored to support local educators as they prepare to inspire students for the new school year.

As part of the CPA Day of Service on September 25, our team partnered with Crayons2Calculators, an initiative of the Durham Public Schools Foundation. Together, we helped sort and organize donated school supplies and packed orders for local teachers. It was a rewarding day of service and a reminder of the vital role our educators play in shaping our community. We are proud to contribute to their success and support their efforts in the classroom.

Office Happenings:

On September 16, we celebrated the 9/15 tax deadline and National Guacamole Day with a festive spread of guac creations, margaritas, and sweet treats — the perfect way to mark the occasion together. 

On August 20, our team celebrated National Prosecco Day with a “Bubbles and Bites” happy hour featuring sparkling drinks and tasty bites — mini crab cakes, charcuterie, fresh mozzarella with tomatoes, and cheesecake bites! 

We were especially excited to have many of our fully remote team members join us in person, since they flew in early for our quarterly firm-wide meeting. It was a wonderful way to connect and spend time together! 

On August 21, our quarterly firm-wide meeting wrapped up with lunch and trivia at Boxyard RTP — the perfect way to reflect on goals, celebrate wins, and connect outside the office.

On September 25, we celebrated National One Hit Wonder Day with a themed happy hour full of laughs and nostalgic tunes. Check out our curated playlist here: One Hit Wonders Playlist.

On September 29, we celebrated National Coffee Day with coffee in every form — from tiramisu and ice cream to coffee cake, candies, and even a coffee bean guessing game. It was a sweet (and energizing) way to celebrate together!
