In the Firm – August 2025

Here is what the firm has been up to since our last newsletter.

Volunteerism/Community Events:

On July 15th, our team had the privilege of volunteering at the SECU Family House at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill — preparing and serving meals for patients and their families who are far from home while receiving care. It was a meaningful way to give back and connect with an organization that inspires strength, hope, and resilience every day.

On July 28th, our team volunteered at Family Room Triad, a local foster care center. We helped prepare for their end-of-season sale by organizing clothing and rearranging the space. Office Happenings:

On June 24th, several members of our team enjoyed an evening out at the Durham Bulls game. Despite the heat, it was a great opportunity to connect and relax outside the office. 

On July 31st, we celebrated National Intern Day with a fun team bowling outing. The afternoon included several rounds of “bowling bingo,” with prizes awarded for both the highest and lowest scores. It was a great opportunity to connect, enjoy some friendly competition, and recognize the valuable contributions of our interns.

On June 26th, we gathered to celebrate the retirement of Carla Daniel, marking the end of her remarkable 42-year career with Blackman & Sloop. From her start in 1983 to her role as Partner in 2025, Carla’s leadership, dedication, and mentorship have left a lasting impact on the firm and the people she has worked alongside. We wish her the very best as she begins this exciting next chapter.

On July 22nd, three Blackman & Sloop teams participated in trivia night at NAMU. While we didn’t take home first place this time, the evening was filled with laughter, teamwork, and great company. We’re already looking forward to our next trivia outing.

On July 21st, we celebrated National Ice Cream Day with an ice cream bar at the office. The sweet treat was the perfect way to cool off, connect with colleagues, and enjoy a taste of summer together.

On July 14th, we marked National Mac and Cheese Day with a delicious macaroni and cheese bar at the office. It was a warm, comforting way to enjoy lunch while catching up with colleagues.
