The local accounting firm of Blackman & Sloop, CPAs, P.A. is pleased to announce that Deetra Watson, CPA, CGMA has joined the board of directors of the North Carolina Center for Nonprofits (NCCNP). Her term began on July 1, 2022, and she sits on the organization’s Finance Committee.

Watson joined Blackman & Sloop in 2005 as a staff accountant; today, she serves as a principal in the firm’s assurance department. She specializes in helping nonprofit clients identify opportunities to strengthen their financial governance, business strategy, and operational efficiencies. Her extensive experience includes working with a variety of nonprofit organizations and many colleges and universities.
“As attested to by my work history, serving nonprofits is a cause that is near and dear to my heart,” said Watson. “I leapt at the opportunity to join the board of the Center for Nonprofits. The work they do in supporting the many nonprofits that operate in North Carolina is incredibly important. I am thrilled to serve this fantastic organization.”

The mission of the NCCNP is to “educate, connect, and advocate for North Carolina’s nonprofits.” It serves as a statewide network for nonprofit board and staff members, a resource center on best practices for nonprofit governance, and an advocate for the nonprofit sector as a whole. A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Watson holds a Master of Science in Accounting and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting with a minor in Communications. She is currently affiliated with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (NCACPA). Within the AICPA, Watson was named the “Start Here, Go Places” CPA of the Month, is a member of the organization’s 2010 Leadership Academy, and formerly served on the Assurance Services Executive Committee and Not-for-Profit Expert Panel. Within the NCACPA, Watson serves on the Not-for-Profit Resource Group, sat on the Board of Directors from 2015-2017, and is a former member of the Financial Literacy Committee.
