Who’s New?
We had three recent additions to the firm. Cindy Causey joined Blackman & Sloop’s business advisory team in September. After helping out during tax season, Elizabeth Mauch came back to the firm in September as a full-time employee. Susan Puryear joined us in October as an Administrative Assistant.
In the Community
We’ve been busy giving back to the community this fall! Blackman & Sloop was a sponsor and booth participant at the annual North Carolina Center for Nonprofits Conference, which was held in September in Research Triangle Park. Other Triangle area events we’ve been involved in have included the Raise a Racket and Kids Carnival, benefiting the UNC Children’s Hospital; Triangle Literacy Council’s Read to Succeed BBQ Feed; the 26th annual A Tasteful Affair benefiting the Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill; and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public School Foundation’s 20th Anniversary Walk for Education.
We’ve also supported causes throughout the state. In September, we participated in the annual Russell Wagoner Charity Softball Tournament, which is a fundraiser for Orange Congregations in Mission honoring the life and work of Wagoner, who was an active OCIM volunteer and lover of softball. In October, we went to Raleigh and sponsored the 50th anniversary gala for The Affordable Housing Group of North Carolina, which is located in Charlotte.
In the Fun
We ended the summer with a picnic at Jordan Lake. Even though the weather was hot, it was a fun afternoon. In addition to swimming in the lake, there were games for the kids – including a piñata. There was also a water balloon toss, which ended up as a water balloon fight among the adults!
Kudos!

Our American Heart Association Walk team captain, Sue Cannon, managed to raise donations of $585, even though we did not have a team participate in the walk this year. Way to go, Sue!
In Every Age
Deetra Watson celebrated her 40th birthday in September and Elizabeth Mauch celebrated her 50th in October. Happy Birthday, ladies!!
